Overview
ST S-type load cell: 50–7500 kg capacity, measures in both compression and tension — built for crane scales and force testing at C3 accuracy class.
The ST is a high-precision load cell named for its body structure resembling the letter "S" or "Z", converting mechanical force into an electrical signal. One of the most widely used devices in industrial weighing and force measurement systems, this model stands out for its ability to measure forces in both tension and compression.
Its operating principle relies on the flexing properties of the material: thin conductive traces called "strain gauges" at the centre of the cell flex at a microscopic level as force is applied. This flexing produces a change in electrical resistance, which a Wheatstone bridge circuit turns into meaningful weight or force data. The ST is manufactured from nickel-plated steel alloy in capacities from 50 to 7500 kg, with top and bottom threaded holes for easy mounting.

Use Cases
Technical
“When selecting the ST for mechanical-to-electronic scale retrofit projects, the force direction (tension/compression) of the existing scale platform must be correctly identified.”
